Dr. Manuel Ignacio Azócar

azocar-ma-195x300Manuel Ignacio Azócar was born in 1974 and was graduated from the University of Santiago of Chile in 2001. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Chemistry in 2007 with a work focused on the synthesis of Porphyrins and it electrocatalytic behavior. In 2002 he joined to Dr. J. Gimeno at University of Oviedo, Spain and to Dr. W. Dehaen at University of Leuven, Belgium in 2004-2005.

In 2008, he started his postdoctoral research with M. Paez at University of Santiago of Chile in inorganic films with antibacterial properties for protection against MIC of aluminum alloys and stainless steel. Moreover, in 2008 he won the Initiation into Research Funding Competition from the National Commission For Scientific & Technological Research, focalized on the antibacterial properties of new silver complexes. –                                        – In 2010 he also won a proposal of International scientific cooperation Chile-Argentina to study New Polymers with Antibacterial properties as potential Biomaterials. In 2011 he did a research stay at the University of Manchester (UK).

He is currently Research Assistant of Chemistry at University of Santiago of Chile, Editor in Communications in Inorganic Synthesis and member of The Center Of Soft Matter Research (SMAT-C). His main research interests focus on the study and development of antibacterial inorganic materials, among others.
